Another mission of mine to go down here was to visit my company branch in Switzerland. We couldn‘t find it when we travel with our Smart car. But on the next day, we travel by a little orange train, as the admin. girl, Luona, called it and walked into the somewhat business buildings. The area was surrounded by green mountains and some small fields which were not so far away. It wasn’t in the city area or anything. Well, even me, I can’t define the definition of city anymore. Nature and city live side by side very closely in Switzerland. People here are really lucky to be that close to nature. I can feel that as if they were actually working on their holiday. My company is on the 2nd floor of the building E. There were some 20 young officers working there (but at that time were some 5 people). Again, people here speak at least 3 languages! It was a warm atmosphere and they were smiley people.

We went to University of Lugano to pick up some brochure of Master‘s Program. The university is about 10 years old (if we didn‘t misunderstand) and it‘s not so big. Everything looks nice (For me, toilets weighed most for this satisfactory rate). The funny part that Alex laughed his head off was my imaginary unfinished library. I really thought the library building is still needed painting, but actually it‘s the style. Inside, is really nice and paths underground connected to other buildings like Snack place and the lecture building. I found it so fantastic. Nearby is a small Italian restaurant, we had spaghetti - so tasty!!

On the last day, we also went to take a nap at the park by the lake (while waiting for our train). I never thought that this could happen in Bangkok. Suan Lumpini Park is not going to be nice like this. The weather was just right, the park wasn‘t loud though there were many couple coming to nap or some family & their dog coming to play. It was a good good afternoon (sleep).

Locarno
We rented a Smart car. I was always wondering if a giant size like Alex can ever fit in such a tiny car. Surpringly it fit us perfectly. It was a quiet driving to Locarno. Alex needed an extreme peace. No radio. Only me chatting with myself and played around with my own camera. Hahaha. It needed us sometimes to adjust to this (stupid) car. It took some time to turn off the light behind us, to figure out why the car wasn‘t moving after we changed the gear, etc. We almost smashed a big car on the right side as we were turning left. It was enough adventure until we reached Locarno.

It was quite happening at that time. It was an International Film Festival in Locarno. The ex-staff like me who has gone to already 2 festivals in Bangkok couldn‘t help feeling excited. The mascot is yellow leopard. Everywhere you see huge billboards advertising this event. Toyota launched the lastest version of their car coming out of yellow leopard box. There was an open-air movie which will be broadcast that night with CHF 22 entrance fee (!! - the festival in BKK was not over CHF 7). I only took photos and walked away...

Buongiorno!
I thought we have gone to Italy. When the train passed a 17-min long tunnel, we reached Airolo station. The voice from the loudspeaker changed from German to Italiano lady! We arrived in a completely different world!

Lugano
Lugano is in the south of Switzerland. There is a main street (also railway) that links directly to Italy. People here speak mostly Italian and some German and maybe French and hopefully English. The staff at the hotel we‘re staying at (Best Western Hotel) are speaking 4 languages - let me say - fluently. They talked on the phone in French and then talked to Alex in German, talked to colleagues in Italian, then said „You‘re Welcome“ in British accent to me. Cool isn‘t it?

Lugano is a great place to relax and greater if you have a chance to live. The city area is close to the lake (Lago di Lugano). Zillions of luxurious shops (Louis Vitton, Tag Heuer, for example) are at every building (v. tempting, indeed!) Homemade yummy ice-cream is everywhere. And the weather is nice all year round (well, if you compare to the northern part of Switzerland) - the temperature never goes below 8C.

Einstein House
He lived in an apartment no. 49. It was found among the luxurious shops of today. Again, I like the way they displayed the museum. It was actually his room with his personal things and the description along. I have been always amazed by his incredible brain and wondelful works that he had done. But what interests me more was his personal life. Love life, to be exact :-))

„How could I have lived alone before, you are my little treasure. Without you, I lack self-confidence, the desire to work, the joy of life - In short, without you, my life is no life at all.“
A letter to Mileva Marlc (His first wife), 1900

Is this scientist a poet??

Munster
It‘s a Gothic-styled cathedral. I have studied about Gothic novels (Frankenstein and all that). The writers usually portray suspicious atmosphere and strange settings of odd architecture. And this cathedral is it! An example is a sculpture of a devil squeezing the throat of a woman on the roof. I just couldn‘t imagine myself walking around here during the night...it was a dark night with piercingly cold breeze. I am here in front of the wooden door and about to push it open. A heavy hand taps on my shoulder. I turn around and it was...!

Later we went to see the view from the top at Musterplattform. It was an open-air area. Some are sipping coffee at the small cafe, some taking a nap on the grass and some (like us) sitting and watched over the river Aare and wondering if there was any bear in the other side of the woods.

It was quite a long walk today. We took some unusual path that wasn‘t mentioned on the guide book to have a close look at the river. After that, we took a cable car up to the town to get Kebab (S.Fr. 7.50) and sat in the park near the train station. Bern isn‘t so big. We would call it a day and waited for our train in the next 2 hours.
